Medical Disclaimer

Last updated: May 31, 2026

Please read this page carefully before you use DrBerry.com. Dr. Ken Berry is a board-certified family physician, and the information on this site comes from years of clinical experience. Even so, what you find here is education, not personal medical care. It is written for a general audience and cannot account for your individual health, history, or circumstances. The most important thing to take from this page is simple: talk with your own doctor before you change how you eat, and especially before you change any medication.

Read This First: The Warnings That Matter Most

If you remember nothing else from this page, remember this. Before you start the Proper Human Diet (PHD) or any new way of eating, talk with your own physician or qualified health provider. A way of eating that is low in carbohydrates can change your body quickly, and some of those changes need to be managed by a doctor who knows you.

This is especially important if any of the following describe you. Please do not begin without speaking to your own doctor first:

  • You take medication for diabetes or to lower your blood sugar. A low-carb diet can lower blood sugar quickly, and your dose may need to be reduced by your doctor to avoid going too low.
  • You take medication for high blood pressure. A low-carb diet can lower blood pressure quickly, and your medication may need to be adjusted by your doctor.
  • You are pregnant or nursing.
  • You have kidney disease or liver disease.
  • You have a history of an eating disorder.
  • You have any chronic medical condition, or you take any prescription medication on a regular basis.
  • You are caring for or guiding a child who would be following this way of eating.

In an Emergency

This site is never a substitute for emergency care. If you think you are having a medical emergency, call your doctor or 911 right away, or go to your nearest emergency room. Do not wait, and do not rely on anything you read on this site to decide whether your situation is serious. When in doubt, get help.

Warning signs that need immediate attention include chest pain, trouble breathing, confusion, fainting, signs of very low blood sugar, or any sudden and severe symptom. Trust your instincts and seek care.

This Is Education, Not Medical Advice

All of the content on DrBerry.com is provided for general educational and informational purposes only. That includes every article, page, video, podcast, downloadable guidebook, recipe, chart, and any other material on the site. None of it is medical advice, and none of it is meant to replace the advice of your own physician or qualified health provider.

General information cannot know your full medical history, your current medications, your lab results, or anything else that makes your situation unique. Only a provider who can examine you and review your records can give you advice that is right for you. Use what you learn here as a starting point for a conversation with that provider, not as a substitute for one.

No Doctor-Patient Relationship Is Created

Using this site does not make you Dr. Berry's patient. Reading the articles, watching the videos, listening to the podcast, downloading the guidebook, signing up for emails, or contacting us through the site does not create a doctor-patient relationship of any kind, and none should be assumed.

Dr. Berry is not accepting new patients, and he does not provide individual medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment through this site. No communication you have with this site or with us should be treated as personalized medical care.

About the Proper Human Diet (PHD)

The Proper Human Diet is a way of eating centered on whole animal foods and natural fats, and low in carbohydrates. The site explains the thinking behind it and how many people approach it. That explanation is general by design.

A way of eating that works well for one person may not be appropriate for another, and the same person may need to adjust it over time. Whether the PHD is a good fit for you, and how to begin it safely, is a decision for you and your own doctor to make together based on your specific health.

Always Consult Your Own Provider Before Making Changes

Before you change your diet, start any new way of eating, or stop, start, or change any medication or supplement, consult your own physician or qualified health provider. This is true even if a change seems small or obviously healthy.

Never disregard professional medical advice, and never delay seeking it, because of something you read, watched, or heard on this site. If your provider's guidance differs from what you find here, follow your provider. They know you, and this site does not.

Individual Results Vary

Any stories, testimonials, or examples of results on this site reflect the experiences of specific individuals. They are shared to inform and encourage, not to promise that you will have the same experience.

Your body, your health history, your starting point, and your circumstances are your own. No specific outcome is promised or guaranteed, and your results may be different. The only way to understand what is realistic for you is to work with your own provider.

Statements Have Not Been Evaluated by the FDA

Any statements on this site about foods, nutrition, or dietary supplements have not been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Nothing on this site is intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Dietary supplements in particular are not regulated the way prescription medications are. If you are considering a supplement, talk with your own doctor or pharmacist first, especially if you take other medications, because some combinations can be harmful.

Affiliate and Product Links

Some pages on this site include links to products, books, or services, and some of those may be affiliate links that earn us a commission. We only point to things we believe are worthwhile, but a mention or a link is not a medical recommendation for your specific situation.

A product that is helpful in general may not be right for you. Before you buy or use any product, supplement, or device you find through this site, check with your own physician or qualified health provider to make sure it is appropriate for your health and your medications.

How to Contact Us (Non-Medical Questions Only)

If you have a general, non-medical question about the site, you can reach us at info@drberry.com. We are glad to help with things like technical issues, the guidebook, or general feedback.

Please understand that we cannot answer personal medical questions, give individual medical advice, or respond to questions about your specific health or treatment by email or through this site. For anything about your own health, your medications, or your symptoms, please contact your own physician or qualified health provider. In an emergency, call 911.
