What Is The Ketogenic Diet?

What is the ketogenic diet? Dr. Ken Berry explains why keto is so effective, sustainable, and natural.

What Is The Ketogenic Diet?

The ketogenic diet is exploding in popularity — and for very good reason. At its core, keto is simply a way of eating that keeps carbohydrates low enough that your body shifts from burning glucose as its primary fuel to burning fat and ketones instead. When that metabolic switch happens, most people experience a level of satiety, mental clarity, and effortless fat loss they have never felt on any other diet. You eat real, whole foods until you are genuinely satisfied. You do not weigh your portions or obsess over calories.

One of the most common objections I hear is that keto is restrictive or unsustainable. I disagree completely. There are thousands of naturally ketogenic foods available to you right now — fatty cuts of meat, fish, eggs, butter, hard cheeses, nuts, low-carb vegetables, and more. No powders, bars, or shakes required. This is not a modern invention. It is the diet your ancestors ate for the vast majority of human history, long before the industrial food system buried us in cheap carbohydrates and chronic disease. Keto is not a fad. It is a return to the way human beings are designed to eat.
